Replacing front 120 mm fan on Antec Super Lanboy?

I can no longer stand the blue LED's on the front fan on the Antec Super Lanboy. The problem is that when I popped the fan cover off the front, I noticed that the fan is connected with some kind of 2 pin plug that I don't think I've ever seen before. If I replace the fan with a non LED 120 mm fan, what are my options? I thought about snipping the wires to the LED's, but I don't want to ruin the fan forever. I'd rather replace it with another non LED fan, but what do I do about the two pin plug?

Do you have a pic of the connector? Where does it ultimately connect to? It must plug into either the MoBo or the PSU for power...

The Blue LED isn't too bad, I put a cover over it whenever I'm tired of looking at it or just doing a over-night video job. I actually appreciate it more than my parent's machine and I can know my machine is on easily. As for replacing it, I think any standard 120mm will do it just need a extension to reach your m.b. forget about the custom 2 pin plug just leave it and use a standard 120mm.

Here's a photo of it unplugged from the case. Now that I look at it more closely, it's just a standard 3 pin fan connector. As you can see, the fan plugs directly into a connector built into the case. I'd probably need a fan with a straight up 3 pin connector. I doubt that I'd have room behind the front cover for any kind of adapter to convert a 4 pin fan to a 3 pin fan. I wanted to use one of those Antec Tricool adjustable fans, but I doubt that I could fit all the cables and connectors up front. Does anyone have a Tricool fan? If so, are the fan connectors (fan speed) bulky?

That's a standard 3 pin plug fan plug. the pin that's missing on the case side is likely a speed monitoring pin.. I wouldn't worry about it.

you should be able to easily replace with any fan that has a 3 pin connector... and any fan that doesn't, will have a 4pin molex connector that will plug in to the power supply.

best idea I ever did to my Lanboy was clip the wire and remove the blue led strip around the fan.. very easy to do so. Just unscrew the fan from the case then just pry the strip off the outer edge of the fan. You don't HAVE to remove the strip i just wanted it gone completely.. if you want to do away with it.. it's just 1 wire that needs to be snipped for the light to never come on again. I would give you more detailed instructions but I am not at home right now to check my case.

I don't know that I want to permanently disable the LED on the fan though in case I ever want it back for some reason (if I possibly sell it or something). I wish I could just swap the front fan with the rear fan. I'd much rather have the LED on the rear. I like the blue LED all right, but not shining in my face.

Give me instructions anyway in case I do it. Whenever you get a chance is fine.

The problem with using 3 pin to 4 pin adapters is that there isn't much room in the front of the case behind the plastic grill cover (between the grill cover and the front of the case). You can't fit much back there but a few wires. No connectors, adapters, etc..

Does the rear fan have a three pin connector? Can you just swamp them?

If not, you could always just cut the wires and solder the other connectors on...

No. It's totally different. Otherwise, I would've done it already. The front fan has a short wire covered in a sheathing that looks like speaker wire and a 3 pin connector. The silver sheathing is probably so it blends into the case and doesn't show through the font "waffle" cover. The rear fan is a regular fan with the long, unsheathed wires and the 4 pin molex connectors with pass throughs.

The thing is that I don't want to permanently modify anything with this case (or accessories) for now because it is a cool case IMO and it's no longer available.

I'll probably just pick up one of those Antec Tricool non LED fans and try it. I can always modify that fan because I can get a replacement if I screw it up.

Weird; I just doublechecked to make sure - my Super Lanboy doesn't have that connecter at all. My fan goes straight out to a typical 4pin connector (Which i have connected to a fanspeed controller).

I wish mine did that. Do you have a photo of yours? I can't see how I'd get 4 pin molex through the front to the inside of the case without drilling out something.

I purchased a new case this week (that Antec Solo deal) But I tooka look at it.. I even tried pulling the fan out but I cannot remove that fan from the front connecter. It's a 3-pin port like Salvador stated. I don't want to put too much force so I just left it. Ultimately, I never did figure out how to remvoe the front cover of the case while tinkering with it. I have it up for sale in my thread if anyone wants a lanboy cheap and wants to tinker with that. However, my LED is cut so it's just another 120MM Tri-cool (one of the best fans imho)

Best of Luck Salvador, I hope your fan plug isn't as difficult to undo as mine.. seems like mines glued into the plug or something.

The fan that came with your Lanboy is a Tricool? Mine is just a single speed.

I find it hard to believe that it's glued in there. It's probably just in there tight.
