Replacing fan on a 9800 pro

I got an AIW 9800 pro thats fan was not spinning as fast as it should. I bought a 9800 pro HSF thinking it would fit, almost not quite. Anyways I was wondering if I could take the fan off of the heatsink and just swap fans on them instead of the whole HSF.

Worst case if it's not possible, I have a couple 80mm fans, could I just put those on top of the heatsink somehow? Think it would work? They are larger after all.

thanks for any input!

I'm thinking you're still under warranty, ATI should replace the HSF for you.

EDIT: There should just be a couple of screws holding the fans on the HS.

I believe I have an extra fan/heatsink. $5 for shipping and I'll send it to you because I have no need for it anymore.

i like oscar's idea, otherwise a 80mm mounted on cpu cooler mounted to the gpu works well also. I wont make any gurantees about just a 80mm fan pointing toward the heatrsink but it sould be doable.

I had a old geforce2 gts with a dead fan. I put 1 80mmfan to blow toward the stock heatsink and it worked well enough, temps were around stock(maybe a bit lower), but i wont make any gurantees with a hot running 9800pro.
