The door locks on my 93 chevy truck are worn out. The key is heavily worn, cylinders do not stop/start in the verticle position, are very difficult to turn etc.

I am concerned that merely replacing the locks will not correct the stiff operation. I have gotten in the habit of pushing the door lock button twice because sometimes they do not lock.

What would be the best course to restore them?

Aside from needing new lock cylinders you may need to remove, clean, and lubricate the lock mechanism down in the door....the part that grabs the post on the door jamb to actually keep the door closed. As the grease ages it dries out and turns into a paste which can make everything feel like it is binding. If you think it sucks on a 17 year old vehicle try it on a 45 year old one.
