I just cracked the 17" WXGA+ screen on my Toshiba Stellite M65-S809. Since I didn't get any extended warrenty, I'll have to take on the cost. I'll call for a price from an authorized Toshiba repair center Monday for a price, but if this seems too high I may replace it myself. So a couple questions...

Is this an easy enough repair for me with a lot of experience with building/troubleshooting destop systems? I found an Online Parts Store with the screens, however they show five compatible screens, how do I know which one? Or what about This Store that has the screen for cheaper?

It's not too difficult replacing the screens. My suggestion would be to take it apart and get the exact part number from the screen itself and do the ordering that way. You might even be able to find a repair manual online for your particular model that shows how to take it apart.

Do what i did. My Sony s360 screen went out so I took apart the laptop and took out the screen. I found the exact model/ serial number and tried ebay'ing it. To my luck i found a perfect condition replacement screen for only $15!!!!!, instead of the $250++ everywhere else i looked. The installation was a breeze and the screen hasnt been better since.

Yes, I did fix my laptops LCD screen. I first took the frame around the lcd off and found the part number for the screen on back, I then did a froogle search and found the excat model and ordered it from www.getpartsonline.com. The price was approx $285 for the 17" screen. It was very easy to replace, DerelictDev's link was very helpfull in showing pictures of similiar laptops replacing the screen. There were just a few small screws and 2 cable connections, and that was it. Piece of cake. The Toshiba repair shop wanted $500 for the screen, and $80 labor to repair. Saved me lot of money.

Replacing laptop screens is a bit of a pain, but it's worth the money you save. Often, many LCDs are compatible; they may vary in resolution, or some might have been replaced by another.
