Replacing brake pads on 2005 Suburban

Couple of questions for the experts here.

How much should it cost if I take my '05 Suburban to a shop to get the front brake pads replaced?

If I do it myself, should I get ceramic or semi-metallic brake pads?

I heard it can be bad to use ceramic if your vehicle wasn't designed for them.

about $300 if it includes servicing the rotor...add $100 if you have to replace the rotors.

Also, ceramics are fine. You want to avoid them if you race your car, though. Never saw anyone race a suburban, however
