Replacing Barbs on Maze 3

I have a 3/8" WC setup right now (Maze3, BIP, Mag3), and I'm thinking about going to 1/2". I'd really like to avoid spending the extra $42 to get a new waterblock with 1/2" barbs. I'd like to just take a wrench, unscrew the current barbs, screw in the new ones and add a bead of silicon (or caulk).

What do you think? Easy/hard? Worth it?

Thanks.

Easy. Use teflon tape or pipe thread compound on the barbs before you screw them in. Don't use silicon or caulk.

Wetling, good luck getting those barbs out. I have the Maze 4 and the barbs look melted in. I treid to remove one to no avail (used a lot of force mind you). Have you been to the Danger Den site to see if they will sell just the lucite top (I'm assuming you have the lucite top)? Good luck.

I don't think I'd want to open up the top, too much risk. If it comes down to it, I'll ask for a refund and buy the Maze4. I have an old Maze2 I can use until I get the replacement.

Well, the old barbs came out easily, and while going from 3/8" to 1/2" doesn't seem to have helped the temperatures at all, I am glad to be at 1/2". With my new Danner Mag 3, and 3/8" hose, there was too much turbulence and the water was white. Now it's clear and I'm happy.
