Replacing ASUS 1001P screen

I have a asus 1001p netbook that’s been dropped and the screen on it’s been cracked. The thing is way out of warranty and I bought it used, so I don’t think I really had one to begin with. I’ve contacted ASUS RMA and it sounds like it’s going to cost more to have them fix it then it would be just replacing it. My question is how much of a pain is it to replace the screen myself? Where would I get the parts to do this?

Thanks

I'm not going to be much help because it's been years since I've had to replace a notebook screen, but all I have to say is good luck with the replacement, because IIRC the 1001P had an excellent screen, and you'll likely be disappointed with any replacement.

In general it would be best to either send it to Asus, or to sell it off for parts. If neither are an option you can replace it yourself. They key is to go slow and have a good set of small screwdrivers. Of course you'll also realize, once you get it apart, taking it apart again is a breeze! It's just that first time that will be difficult/scary.

I can't recommend this site, but a quick google search turned it up. http://www.lcds4less.com/froogle-special-Asus--EEE_PC--1001P--10.0--wsvga--LED.shtml

Thanks for the responces.. The issue I have with sending it in, they've already mentioned to me replacing the screen is going to be easly around $150 plus shipping back and forth..for that price I could replace the entire thing. That's why I was looking to see how much I could replace just the screen for.

It is easy to replace and look on ebay for the replacement. I got one for free with a cracked screen paid about $50 for a new screen. The key to doing this is to take your time. The VDO Cable connected to the screen is taped so pull it off carefully when you reinsert the cable it is small and flat and needs to be inserted all the way. Go to the dollar store for small screw driver set if you need them.
