If you have only one alarm key thing and it went through the washer so it no longer works and no longer has any of the values on the back, how do you replace it? I assume the dealer could do it somehow. Any guess on cost? Any cheaper alternatives to the dealer? Any chance that opening it up and replacing the battery or something equally simple would fix it?

The car in question is a previous generation Honda Civic. Thanks.

The locksmith I use here in California can get and program "some" replacements. You might check there first.

What year civic? They are easy to program by yourself and can be purchased for <$20 on eBay.

2005. Can you program it yourself just by looking at one that no longer works? I suspect I will not have access to anything but that.

I don't know about factory alarms/keyless entry but most aftermarkets have a learn feature and it's actually sync'ing the car to the new remote instead of the other way around.

I can't find the directions for the 05, but I am assuming they should be similar to these. I used the same directions to program a remote for an 04.
