I will be returning my A7V tomorrow and would like a recommendation for a stable Athlon mobo that won't have compatibility problems out the wazoo. I read the Abit K7 is supposed to be good. Recommendations appreciated.

The EPOX 8KTA+ gets good reviews for stability and it overclocks. The 8KTA2 is even better cause it has the new VIA 686B Southbridge with ATA100 support. Uncle TOM just tested the Southbridge and it performs as good as a Promise 100.

NO flame intended..
But if you can't get the board stable, or you're having problems.. It's your fault.
Have you tried EVERYTHING?
It's a simple process to get a peice of hardware running properly out of the box (almost).
You can't expect everything to just.. 'work'.

Updates updates updates.

My board was a glitch factory before i got the new 4-in-1's on it.
Now it hasn't crashed in 3-4 weeks, and I'm on a 700 @ 1000.

(also upgrade the promise drivers, and dx7)

No flame intended? All you did was flame.

I upgraded everything. BIOS, 4-in-1s, you name it. The machine wouldn't even boot with the SB Live! in it, and startup hung for about a minute even without it.

I also found the board useless because the ATA100 is not bootable. What's the point of having a super fast bus if it isn't bootable?

Now my mind is made up, if you don't have a recommendation then don't say anything.

Boot off the ATA66 controller first, get drivers installed in Windows then try ATA100. Are you using an ATA100 hd?

I'm booting off the ATA-100 on the A7V. Had to go to the BIOS and tell it not to use the ATA-66 as a boot option. I'm running a Duron 700 at 963mz and have a SB-Live Value in it. Has to put the SB in the 3rd PCI slot, but have had no real problems other than a bit warm, 48C on the cpu with mobo temp at 29C.... but than again my room temp is about 86F right now (air is off and windows open). But in the mornings when the room temp is a nice 68F, the cpu temp is down to a cool 42/43C. :)
