Replacing a Presario 2000 HARDRIVE

I need to replace a bad hard drive in a Compaq Presario.

When I run diagnostics on it I get this error message 'Test Status #1 - 07 FAIL'. I'm guessin g the hard drive is bad... will not boot the OS.

What can I put in it? It has a Fujitsu 80 gig in it w/ spare part # 394354-001 / 7F0634... price ranges from $80 for refurbs (on ebay) up to $211. I would be ok with a 'pul/refurb' but they tend to sell before I can get them. I really can't spend more than $100. What else can I put in this that might be closer to my budget?

Thanks...

Once you figure out if it is IDE or SATA, you can then start searching some more. Then, go to newegg, and navigate to the laptop hard drive section, and start drilling down your search. So, for example here are 80GB drives

5400 RPM SATA Drive - $60

7200 RPM SATA Drive - $80

5400 RPM ATA Drive - $55

7200 RPM ATA Drive - $80

You can get larger or smaller, slower or faster. I say faster because I believe that a 7200RPM Perpendicular Recording Drive is faster than a 7200RPM Longitudinal Recording one.

And on the off chance you don't know the difference, the back of the hard drive, where all the cables plug in, if it is PATA, then you will have a whole bunch of pins in there, like the back of a CD-ROM. If you look and there are a couple of USB looking connectors, then it is SATA.

I knew I was forgetting something.
