replacing a mirror in a 2000 corolla

I must be missing something.

I broke the mirror in my 2000 corolla. (i let it drop accidentally while I was taking out the headliner. oops.)

I wanted to take the opportunity to install an autodimming mirror (while I have the headliner out, I'm also going to move the microphone for my in-car phone system up to near where the mirror mounts). Thus, I have opportunity to snake the wires.

Anyways, I can't figure out which mirror to buy. every guide i see has them replacing a mirror which attaches to the windshield. Mine doesn't. It attaches to the roof, with 2 small screws. while i was undoing the second screw, that's when it dropped and broke. :/

am I missing something? is replacing this mirror supposed to be so stupidly easy that noone bothers to provide instructions or even compatibility warnings?

But another mirror, try to mount, see if it works, profit? Can't have a guide on how to do everything. Maybe you'll have to go the route of mounting a mirror on the windshield and forgoing the usage of the mirror that attaches to the roof? My Civic's mirror attaches to the roof as well.

this is so fucking stupid.

i cannot believe that noone has attempted to mount an aftermarket mirror in one of the most common cars in the world. however, attempting to find a mirror that is compatible would have me believe that there's no such thing as a mirror that mounts anywhere but the fucking windshield.

this whole exercise is so fucked.
