My EVGA 8800 GTS is damaged and I need to replace it. I need help deciding which card to choose. My system specs are: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz, EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS, GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 mobo, G.Skill 2GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM, CORSAIR 520HX PSU.

I know the PSU and mobo are the most important components when choosing a new video card. Here are the links to both.

PSU:

Motherboard:

I am using this computer for gaming. My budget is $175 or so. I am thinking the Sapphire Radeon 4870 ($150 on Newegg) or the MSI Gtx 260 ($170 on Newegg) -- but I am open to suggestions!

Thank you. I appreciate any input greatly!

Both decent choices, but you should be able to get a 4890 for around $175? (maybe after some of those fancy 'rebates' you Americans always talk about :p)

but... whichever new card you get, your going to want to OC your CPU from 2.4GHz to 3+Ghz to get the most out of it. Check out the CPU forum for advice here.

EVGA = lifetime warranty

Well, I looked at EVGA's website and found this:

All EVGA Products purchased ON or AFTER November 1, 2006 MUST be registered within 30 days from ORIGINAL DATE OF PURCHASE to receive our limited lifetime warranty. (All products not registered within 30 days will ONLY receive a 1 year limited warranty.)

I never registered... And I purchased this way back in 2007.

So... about the 4890. Will that be any problem for my PSU? It's only 520 watt.

Thanks everyone!

That's Corsair 520 watts not a generic power supply. It won't even break a sweat with a single 4890.

4870 1GB for $121

I'd save the $50 towards your next upgrade. 4890 isnt that much faster than 4870.

Your PSU is a VERY good 520w model - it'll be perfect for a single 4890 and probably could Xfire them :)

EDIT -

RussianSensation got there while i was posting!

get the $120 4870 1GB and put the extra $50 toward a top of the line air cooler so you can overclock that CPU. you are going to want to try and get it up to at least 3.2-3.6 for good gaming performance in more upcoming games. the chip isnt a hard chip to OC, and though the motherboard chipset itself is old you should still be able to extract more performance out of it. if you are adamantly against overclocking it for any reason, you can get 4GB more ram (DDR2-1066 5-5-5-15) for about the same price, which will also yield you significant performance gains over the paltry 2GB you have now. most modern games i have played are capable of using at least 2GB, with a couple using upwards of 4-6GB (mostly MMORPGs using that much)

There's a chance EVGA will do ya anyway. They're good like that. But don't forget to register!
