I have a 18.4gb scsi drive in a Dell Powerdege 1600SC thats being controlled by the onboard hardware (not software). This is the drive link and I cannot find a replacement. I can find larger drives. If I replace it with a larger size, can I simply go into the hardware utility (during the boot process) and simply rebuild it? I realize that it wont made the raid bigger, but will it simply resize it to the current 18.4gb?

I need to replace two, one is in RAID 1 and the other in RAID 5.

Yes, you can install as many and as large as needed.

They will only be 18.4GB in size in the RAID array. However, once you have all of the 18.4GB drives replaced, you should be able to extend the RAID array (I'm pretty sure the PERC4 can do this) to the full size. Then, if you're using Windows 2003, you should also be able to use diskpart to extend the file system to the full size as well.

I've done this a couple of times, not on my 1600SC, but some HP boxes. It is a damned long process, but it works.
