Last year, I received the Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop as a present and loved it until the USB transmitter/receiver slowly started dying. Microsoft claims these USB dongles are keyed to the individual keyboard/mice and therefore a new one cannot be purchased. According to disgruntled users on their own forums, this is a fairly common problem.
Microsoft in their infinite wisdom wanted to issue a complete replacement, but eventually declined my service request due to the lack of a gift receipt. Although using basic logic, I'm still well within the three-year warranty period as the product's release date was August 13, 2013. I guess their once great customer service is no longer.
Does anyone know of a USB dongle that would work with this desktop set? I'm being told by Microsoft to buy a universal USB transceiver/receiver, but they cannot give me a single model number which might work.
