I want to replace the very noisy top exhaust fan on my Antec 300. Even running at the lowest setting, it is quite audible and vibrates the whole case. I don't want to spend a lot of money, as the case is only worth $50, so it seems crazy to spend half that on a fan to go in it.

I was thinking about ziptying a regular 120 mm fan up top. Has anyone done this? It's a shame they didn't include mounting holes for a standard 120...

Thought about doing that but the local shop put these on sale for $5 so I bought one. Much quieter than the stock tri-cool fan that comes with the 300. Still a reasonable buy at $12.

Thanks for the recommendation. I may pick one up next time I'm making an order from newegg that ships from the US. We Canadians have to coordinate such purchases carefully to avoid paying a fortune in shipping.

The Antec 300 uses any 140mm fan.

If it is vibrating the whole case, the bearings are starting to go. You can alleviate the problem for a while by oiling the fan bearings. Remove the fan from the case and clean it. Then, peel off the fan hub sticker from the fan cage side. Remove the rubber stopper in the middle and put a drop of oil in it. I use the standard 3-in-1 Household Oil from the local hardware store. Replace the rubber stopper and replace the sticker (or put a piece of tape over the rubber stopper). There! The fan should be good for another few weeks to a few months while you find a deal on a replacement.

I know this topic is very old, but I too have an Antec 300 case and the problem I am having is that whenever I turn my computer on, that top fan makes a grinding noise and doesn't come up to full power. After about letting the computer run for 3 or 4 minutes, I turn off the computer, turn it back on and it sounds normal again. But lately it's taking like 6 to 7 minutes for the fan to go to normal speed. I thought this case used a 180mm case fan. That's what newegg says. I plan to purchase a replacement fan but want to know what size exactly the fan is.

The top vent on the Antec 300 takes a 140mm fan. Try to find a model that uses something other than sleeve bearings if you want it to last longer than the old one.

Sleeve bearings? I know this was a fan that came with my computer. Also, would oiling the fan help?
