Does anyone know of any websited that sell replacement telescopre tripods? Id found one website that sells them, but alot of the tripods looks like they are for cameras according to there discrpiton. I would like to find a site that has a big picture of the tripod to see if my telescope mount will fit it.

I have a tasco telesope.

my telescope looks closely like this one

telescope image.

What kind of mount do you have? Alt-az like in that image? The type of aluminum tripod shown in that image sucks ass. It's not stable and will be slow to dampen vibrations even if you fill it with sand.

Surveyor tripods are popular for smaller scopes (10-15 lbs...so 4" refractor or 6" newtonian) for visual use. I use an ash surveyor tripod with an alt-az mount for my TeleVue 101 refractor.

How much are you looking to spend?

Yes and no. At the Tasco level, probably not though it shouldn't be too hard to make an adapter to mate to your mount. As you move up in price, though, things become a little more standardized and/or you can usually find a shop that sells an adapter to mate a given mount to a given tripod or pier.

Have you considered building your own tripod? If you're moderately skilled with handtools, you can build your own adjustable tripod using wheelbarrow handles that you can buy at Lowes or Home Depot. They're pretty sturdy (much better than those hollow aluminum tripods). If you search on the web, you might be able to find some schematics to get you started.
