Replacement Raptor dying...

JBT

Lifer
Looks like my replacement Raptor is starting to die. My first Raptor drive started to have bad sectors so I got it replaced about a year ago. Now this replacment is just running plain slow.
I've already tried swapping SATA cables, different ports, and also chipset/IDE drivers. My other HDD a Seagate 7200.7 SATA is performing just fine.... I've also tested in safe mode and its the same.
Yes I have defragged etc.

here is a pic of HDDTach and its performance vs a normal Raptor. Mine had actually typically score a bit highier than the comparision Raptor.

Red is mine Blue is the comparision.

Anyone have any other ideas to try before I have to RMA this one too?

this board is suppose to lock the controllers and but bus is only at 208 so even if it weren't theat isn't terribly out of spec. Also the Seagate is on the same controller so I would think if it were that it would be messed up too.
I set it back to stock when I get home just in case when I get home tonight and test it out.

DMA's all set, WD utility says its fine too. 12V rail seems fine I've had NO system instability at all The only thing I have noticed was it running very slow when doing large file transfers or installing apps to the that piticular disk.

I wouldn't think if it was the 12V line I wouldn't have been able to play games well with my X1900XT on there...
I might try a format over the weekend just to rule out any software issues, though I would think Safe mode should have been good enough for that.

wow thanks guys. Some how "enable command queing" was checked in the device manager. I unchecked it and it is seeing beter results. Not really sure why it was killing performance by that much...

FIXED!!!

thanks for the help guys!

Glad you got it cleared up.. I had some trouble with compatiblity with my older 74 GB raptors and WD is letting me do a free upgrade to the ADFD... WD Rocks.. much easier dealing with them than the new, not so consumer friendly newegg, who lost part of what I sent in for an rma and told me tough, it was on me.. WD is getting easier and better to deal with while newegg is going down hill fast.
