Had (2) 8800GT Alpha Dog cards (single slot dual dvi 9” length)
One of the cards just shorted
Both Slots: PCI Express 16x --- were stacked - so can either stay with 2 single slot solution or 1 double slot solution but don't know if that is avail in pciex16 ?

Power Supply : New corsair 750w Gold
Dual Monitors: 1920x1200 Samsung 275T

System – custom xp64 build 5+ yrs old
Processor – Intel Core2 Quad Q9300 2.5 GHZ
Motherboard – ASUSTeK P5N-D 1.XX 333mHz
RAM – 8 MB

Originally system was to support 4 LCD monitors but are only using two. The two monitors are now running on the remaining 8800GT but am concerned about losing that one without backup.

Plenty of air from 5 fan enclosure and cooling closet – but not a clean room setting. Dust really built up in the card fan over the last 5 years – no way to get to the fan during regular vacuum cleanup. But had great reliability for a very long time!

Budget is based on best available alternative for a min 512 to preferred 1GB solution

Suggestions, questions? Thanks - mcg

Radeon 7850 will be faster than 8800gt sli, even radeon 7770 may be comparable/faster but I am not 100% certain there what you have can be beat by a single 5850 so 6850 is fine so perhaps 7770 is fine too. Gtx 460 is fine too. Gtx 560 is an upgrade as well

I hope u meant RAM – 8 GB 😀
Are u only changing the gfx card or u wanna change the cpu, mobo as well?

Is your work load gpu based at all or did you just need a card to support 4 lcds?

If it is just about displays we can really scrape the bottom of the barrel as far as very cards go.
