Replacement laptop battery

My sister just emailed me to say her laptop battery now lasts around 45 min on her 2.5 year old laptop (Dell e1405).

I looked on the Dell website and a replacement battery is $160!! Is this normal or should I be looking elsewhere for a replacement? A google search yields way too many weird/shady sites.

Having just gone through this I can tell you that knock off batteries are JUNK. The ones on ebay that claim 180 day warranty are from China. They are actually guaranteed to show up at your house. They will not last long. I am going to sell my Dell e1705 and needed a battery. I bought a used one off ebay in good shape for 40.00 from a reputable laptop parts seller. If it was a lappy I was going to keep I hate to say it but I would only buy a Dell battery. I mean a real Dell battery, not a "genuine made in China battery for a Dell".

Cool, thanks for your input. It seems like a real battery is the way to go but I never realized they were so expensive.

Yes, they are expensive. Keeping the battery in and charging all the time when using the laptop primarily on A/C definitely shortens battery life.

If your sis normally keeps the Dell plugged in, she would be better off removing the battery completely. They are expensive, especially 9 cell Li-ION.

Yea back when I had a laptop, if it was ever plugged in I always removed the battery. That acer battery lasted a good 2.5 years but after that it would run out in less than an hour. Doesn't matter since the freakin thing doesn't even turn on anymore. Thanks for the tip though, I'll try to get her to do this.

Check out Diamond Battery. I ordered a replacement battery for my Dell Inspiron 1100. The battery was about the 1/3 of the cost the official Dell replacement and is slightly more powerful than the Dell version. I had the battery in hand two days after ordering. They're warranty is also for 1 year (compared to most places that have a warranty for 6 months).

Reseller Ratings has really good reviews of them.

Thanks for the link. It seems they had replacements for the E1505 but not the 1405.
