Hi everyone

I have an older core 2 duo off the shelf Acer computer for which I would like to replace the power supply. The computer is Acer model AM5630-U5202A, and the power supply is a LiteON model PS-6301-08A. I have a newer computer that I use as my main computer, but I would like to keep the Acer going as a backup and as a TV tuner since is has a tuner card. The fan on the power supply has been intermittently freezing, and either the computer wont boot at all or the PSU overheats and the computer shuts down.

I have looked on the internet, and it seems that this is a standard ATX power supply, but I am not sure. I dont want to replace it with anything fancy, but was thinking of something like the Corsair CX430 at Microcenter, 29.99 after rebate. Would this psu fit and have the proper connectors?

Is there anything cheaper at microcenter that someone would suggest? I am looking for something in the 300 to 400 watt range, as I dont plan to use it for gaming. I have an AMD HD6450 in the computer now, but have used a low power 9800GT in the past that worked on the OEM psu. I dont really want to order from new egg, etc. since I have a microcenter close by.

The PS-6301-08A is a standard ATX PSU. The CX430 should be a drop-in replacement. Corsair makes good PSUs, and $30 is a deal. I wouldn't cheap out too much.

Internet says the LiteOn has:

- One (1) 20+4 ATX Power Connection
- Two (2) SATA Connections
- Four (4) large molex connector (4-pin)
- One (1) One (1) floppy connector (4-pin)
- One (1) ATX 12V connector (4-pin)
- One (1) 6-pin PCI-Express Connection (6-pin)
The CX430 has 3 Molex, 4 SATA, and the rest is the same. So as long as you're not using 4 Molex connectors, you should be fine.

Thanks for the info.

I also noticed that the CX430 has the fan on top of the unit, while the stock unit has it on the back(i.e. pointing outward when installed).

The stock psu is at the top of the case, so will this put the fan right next to the top of the case, or will the fan (of the replacement unit) pointing down? Anyway, wont this be blowing hot air into the case instead of out of it? I notice that most replacement psu have this configuration though. Sorry if this is a stupid question, I am not that familiar with psus.

Edit: the only connectors I am using are two to the motherboard, one to the hard drive, and one to the DVD. I was concerned that the connector on a new psu might not be compatible with the hard drive connection, since the computer is 8 years old now.
