Hi guys,

I've been having a few issues with my machine. Random bluescreens and restarts. I've managed to narrow it down to the GFX card and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a reasonably priced replacement for the HD 4870. Looking at around the £100 - £150 mark.

Specs as I can remember them below:
MSI Micro ATX motherboard
Q6600 running at stock speed
4 Gig Cosair DDR2 (can't remember the clock speed or timings)
2 Internal SATAs, a 500 gig and a 1TB

Cheers in advance!

Is your 4870 still under warranty by chance? Otherwise the GTX 460 1GB I believe is right around the £160 mark if you can go a little higher for an upgrade.

Anything less is going to be an exact replacement performance wise, but a Radeon 5770 or GTX 460 768MB would be good choices.

Wow I swear I just checked overclockers.co.uk a couple weeks ago and the prices were much higher.

I'd totally grab that 5850 if you can't wait for the 470.

edit: oh, they are much higher, just two really good deals on those cards you found.

They should have the GTX 470 Twin Frozr II in stock tomorrow, though don't take my word for it.

MSI GeForce GTX 470 Twin Frozr II - £143.99, PRE-ORDER price only.

Also MSI ATI Radeon HD 5850 Twin FrozR II -£129.59

I was planning to stick to ATI/AMD but I've got no problems jumping back to Nvidia if the price is right. Nice find mate thanks!

Unfortunately not otherwise it would be going back to the manufacturer. it doesn't need to be an exact match for performance but it seems £150 will get me something better. Thanks for your help.
