When I bought my new PC I handed over my old rig to my GF, she uses it now and plays some games on it. but recently the graphics card is dying. In order to prevent graphical corruption in even the simplest of things I had to manually crank up the fan speed to 100% and downclock the core and memory as far as rivatuner let me.

Soo, now I am looking for a cheap replacement for the 7800 GT.

I am looking for something that fits in with the rest of the system so a comparable speed would be preferable.

My budget is also below 100 € (or $ 100 really, prices are similar)
I have no preference for either ATI or nVidia but I have the impression I might have less driver related problems if I stick with nVidia for this machine (A reinstall of the OS is out of the question)

Any suggestions ?

edit

Some relevant system specs might be of help:
CPU: Athlon 64 3500+ (s939)
Memory: 2 GB

I dont think disks speed or size is relevant. I cant remember what mobo I got with it, Ill have to look that up and add that later.

Geforce GT 220 is the closest new card to a 7800GT. You can also look for a GT 240, which is faster. A 9500GT or 8600 GT / GTS is also comparable.

I have been looking around and I can find a 512 MB GT 240 (GDDR5) for around 65 euros, looks like a good deal as far as I can shop around.

I will probably get that card then. The 220 is available for around 40, but the added 25 buys me a potential physX card later on.

Thanks for the help.
