Replacement for Diamondback 3G?

Opinions! What is a good replacement mouse for the Diamondback 3G?

I purchased an Abyssus mouse recently (isn't here yet). I think that's the closest thing I can get to the now-gone Diamondback 3G. You can find some 3Gs around still, but I hate to get something that isn't produced anymore.

Is the Abyssus a good choice? Is there another company with a high quality LED mouse that is similar? I'm not dead set on Razer, but I do like their products.

I just finished trying out an Imperator, and I wasn't impressed with the sensor. The mouse feels pretty good, but it doesn't fit my hands that well. I'm not a palm style gripper, so it was just "ok" for me. Not worth the $80 anyway. ;)

Other mice I've tried that are close (sort of) in shape are the Logitech G9 and the XAI. They are flat like the Diamondback 3G anyway. Not really the same "shape".

The Diamondback 3G is the best mouse ever!!

Thanks!

I received the Abyssus today. Great mouse! It's on Amazon right now for $32 if anyone's interested. I just got a couple more for my other PCs.

Better than the Imperator (in my opinion) and I can get 3 for slightly more than one Imperator! Awesome.

This is a great Diamondback 3G replacement so far. Closest I've found anyway. The only thing it's missing is side buttons. I don't really use them much so that doesn't effect me.

The Xai is the closest I can think of as it has the same number of buttons (more if you include the DPI toggle button).

Xai should be better because it officially supports polling rate changes (DB3G requires a hack) and can have prediction toggled on and off (the DB3G is stuck with it on no matter what)

But if you've already tried it and came away unimpressed I'm not sure there is any other new mouse that's as similar to the DB3G available.

Razer did just update the Lachesis to their 3.5G laser used in the Mamba/Imperator/Naga, however the Lachesis is a much larger mouse intended more towards claw grippers or even palmmers whereas the DB3G is a finger grip mouse.

I'm also a huge fan of the Abyssus and think its near perfect. The only thing I hate about it is its 3 selectable DPI choices are disappointing. I have always been of the opinion that the DPI arms race is gimmick and firmly believe that the 3500dpi upper end that the Abyssus supports is total overkill. I'd much rather have 450, 900, and 1800 as the the three choices (much like the original DeathAdder, or even better if there were 4 choices of 450, 900, 1800, and 3500) as I'm forced to settle on the 450dpi option which is a tad too low for my liking unless I want to mess with constantly lowering software settings, something that just about defeats the point of the driverless hardware switch design of the Abyssus. Its predecessor, the Salmosa, was also almost perfect with its choice between 800 and 1800 dpi, however it had prediction which I am not a fan of.

That being said it really doesn't seem like Razer has a flagship finger grip oriented mouse at the moment ever since they discontinued the DB3G and Copperhead. Their new StarCraft 2 mouse might end up being good but I can't find specs on its dimensions so can't make a better guess on its grip orientation. However, according to the specified dimensions, their upcoming TRON mouse looks like it will be even smaller than the Abyssus which definitely suggests finger grip orientation. 7 buttons like the DB3G might make it a worthy successor.

why would you recommend that?

the DB3G is a smaller and lighter weight mouse with an ambidextrous design that caters more towards finger tip grips whereas the right hand oriented Mamba is clearly design for palm grips.

And while the Mamba is lightweight for a wireless mouse it is far and away heavier than the DB3G.

Beside, the OP already found a replacement closer to the DB3G that he likes, at a third or even fourth of the cost of the Mamba.
