Replacement for a Radeon 7850

Unfortunately my 1GB Radeon 7850 is dying. I know that this mining thing has adversely impacted the supply and even cards not good for mining have seen price increases due to low supply (due to NO supply on other cards good for mining).

My original plan was to upgrade my entire system this coming January. This 7850 has served my needs well....I don't typically play newly released games....I'm usually 3-4 years behind the times.

Because of the mining craze, I think my strategy will be to purchase something comparable to the 7850.....and wait.

Can anyone make a recommendation on a comparable (or close...a minor step down in performance wouldn't kill me and obviously a slight step up would be fine) card? It doesn't appear they even make the 7850 anymore...so no supply. Used or refurbished would be fine. This is a seven month band aid.

I'd love to hear if you think this is the wrong approach as well.

Thanks!

Like you said, the mining craze has killed the value of any mid range card. Your best bet is used sadly. Maybe try for a 460/550/560 or 1050. They are all pretty bad price/perf but only things available.

Could try ebay. I just put a 7850 2GB on there about a week ago. Last I checked it was still going for low $20's with about a day left. Of course that will likely jump up some. Even at double that though, it's still a great value.

Of course you don't know if the previous owner abused the thing or not, but I've had good luck with used parts.
