Replacement for 3.06 Intel Stock HSF?

I agree that the thing is loud, the rpm's on mine go up to 5400, and a whine like you here from a bad hard drive. I'm probably going to go with the zalman as I have plenty of airflow through the case...

The 7000AlCu tests just as well according to this review at silentpcreview.com. It's lighter and cheaper to boot.

If I had a fast PIV, I'd get one of those. It is unquestionably the best designed air cooling right now, IMO. No wasted materials or noise. The airflow is used to it's max. Beautiful level of finish right out of the box.

Just curious but is the stock P4 3.06Ghz Heatsink/Fan unit the standard looking heatsink fan with the copper bottom or the prettier sunflower-looking unit all the tech sites get with their reference CPUs from Intel?

I guess I should have asked this originally, but does anyone have links to the particular HSF products and/or their favorite vendors for buying them?

(FYI tyipengr - It's the copper-bottomed one)

I got myself the Zalman CNPS7000-AlCu for $37 shipped from SVC. Cools my P4 2.6C wonderfully, even on the lowest fan setting, and it's very quiet.

I don't think you can get much better for the price, noise, and cooling. (SLK-900's up there, but it's more expensive since you have to buy a fan separately.)
