Replacement Chipset Fan Help

Hey guys, new to the boards =)

Question, The fan that is cooling off the Nvidia chip (chipset fan? the little one in the middle) on my Leadtek board makes alot of noise when I turn on the comp, and then goes away after 20 - 30 seconds. I was wondering whats a good fan to replace it with? or would just taking it off cleaning it up and putting some 3-in-1 oil quiet it down? Is it worth trying to fix or just easier to replace?

Hmmm...
that looks like a standard 4cm fan. Ususaly the stock Leadtek fans are cheap. Check to see that nothing is obstructing the blades, and if not just replace it with a new 4cm. You can get a high quality one like Adda for about $10.

If you want to make the noise go away entirely take a look at the Zalman NB47J. A lot of people have used it to eliminate the chipset fans.

Yes you would have to remove the fan and run the heatsink alone. However, the placement of the graphics cards are in a bad spot. Longer cards like 6800GT or Ultra would overhang the heatsink and you'd have to cut or bend some of the fins to get it to fit. The 6600GT is a short card. If a 6600GT is used then you might not have to mod the heatsink.

Ya, the Zalman is good too. Just make sure it doesn't get crazy hot. If it does, you can increase case ventilation.
If you can't be asked to take your mobo out of the case, or the Zalman still gets too hot, just use my original suggestion.
