replacement board dell 8600 inspiron

i have a dell 8600 inspiron that i purchased two years ago that needs a new motherboard. dell quoted me a new one for $400. is there someplace else to get a replacement for less money. i am not against repairing it for a small amount of money but when i can get an entire new laptop for around the same amount as a new board, i would probably go that route. any info on this matter would be greatly appreciated. feel free to e-mail as well as responding here. thanks.

If that's a laptop, you're not likely to find replacement boards. Considering the way prices are dropping, and depending on the specs for your machine, you may be better off getting a new one and selling off the CPU and either using or selling the RAM in the new system.

If it's still good enough, and you can't replace it for a reasonable price, I'm afraid you're stuck with getting it repaired at the best price you can find.
