The battery on my Dell laptop is on it's way out; down to holding a 45min charge. My brother in law has a spare battery for his Dell that he has never used. The only problem is that the battery won't lock into place in my laptop; the cause is one edge of the battery doesn't quite match.

For example, my current battery has a beveled lip along the long edge, so looking at the battery's short end, you see this:

_________/
...........
...........
_______

where as his battery looks like this:

__________
...........
...........
_______

Since they're both for Dell's and everything else is identical on the batteries, does anyone see any issues with Dremeling off the offending plastic (only about 1/8 inch) so that the battery locks in place? Or is there really a problem with using the battery for a different model Dell?

the batteries might also have different chips... the motherboard might reject it.
