I've got an Athlon XP 1700+ (not OC'ed at the moment)
on an Abit KR7A.

I had become rather irritated with my high-pitched, noisy, mediocre performance Volcano 6Cu+.
Since the GC68 was cheap, I ordered one and installed it with the 80mm fan that comes with it. It's 32 CFM.
I haven't seen any improvement in temps.

It is slightly quieter and definitely less whiny sounding.
But after all the reviews I heard, I was expecting lower temps. Instead they are almost the same as with the Volcano.

Usually around 18 degrees C above the case temp.
Under load thats around 35/53.

Anyone else have the GC68?
Should I expect better temps than this and try reapplying the AS and reinstalling?
Or would I need a higher output fan do see much better temps?

So you bought one of the cheapest hs available and is now disappointed with it performance wise? hmm...

Your temps don't seem that high for that cooler. It is a decent cooler, but what do you expect for $5. Is that a Palomino or a TBred? For a Palomino that is probably right, for a TBred it seems a bit high.

You shouldn't be suprised. It's a great budget cooler, but in no way is it some kind of performance king. Those temps sound about right for a palomino.

According to the reviews I read and the benches, it is supposed to perform better than many other more expensive coolers and close to some of the top coolers like the AX-7.

Here is one of the reviews.

Looking at it now, it seems that with the stock low speed fan, it really doesn't perform that well. I still would have expected to get better temps than I had with the Volcano though. It really should have better performance than the Volcano and the fan is pushing the same CFM as the Volcano was.

Maybe it just doesn't really meet it's potential without really high airflow.

It's a Palomino, not a Tbred. So I know the temps aren't really that bad. It's just that I expected more.
