Replaced the alternator today **PICS**

I replaced my alternator today with an upgraded one that put out 160A , apparently the alternator from the Nissan Murano fits the maxima & i30.

Just as I suspected, the bearing on the old alternator is bad. I can spin pulley on the old alternator and hear it rubbing something inside on every revolution.

Anyway, it wasn't that hard. The hardest part was me trying to find the lower bolt that attach the alternator to the engine. The whole process was pretty easy and no special tools required.

All you have to do is remove the (4) AC compressor bolts and then slide the alternator out.

The only slight difference is the third prong where you plug the harness to....I don't think it'll make a difference because this is also made for the nissan murano.

Why do you need one with that high of an output? Are you running a mega-watt stereo system?
I doubt it would actually put out 160A, more like 120-130A. Which is better than the factory 100A alternator.

A little more juice is always good when you're adding an amplifier & sub woofers. I also hardwired my GPS 🙂 and planning to add an extra auxiliary output to the car to charges iphone/laptop

Man, I bet your Maxima drives better than my '03 by now. I need new tires, the tread is fine but I'm getting a bit of a vibration in the wheel at freeway speeds and it feels a bit numb. Everytime I take it in and complain about the steering feeling vague they tell me there's nothing wrong with it. 🙄 Probably needs new bushings/tires/alignment. I replaced the struts/shocks about a year ago so I know those are good.

As far as the steering wheel feeling numb, mine feel really loose if that's the word. It takes no effort to steer at all, it's just too easy to steer left & right. Well all of it was fixed when I took my car in for an alignment. I don't know what they did, maybe they tightened up the inner tie rods or something but the steering is nice and stiff again. I replaced everything in the front end except the inner tie rods. So I assume it was the inner tie rod that's the cause of loose/vague steering feel.

The car runs and drives like a million bucks. Can't wait to get the tires install tomorrow. It'll definitely get rid of the annoying tire sound, because as you know, I have 4 different tires on the car and one of them have RIDGES/Lumps across the tire. 😵 No wonder why it's so noisy.

It wasn't that bad, however, that alternator looks like a piece of cake to do 😀. I missed owning a toyota 4 cylinders. They are the best car in term of doing your own maintenance.
 
Try going from an externally regulated 27A generator to an internally regulated 65A alternator. Actually, my conversion looks like it was easier to do than you getting your alternator out.

Basically an air cooled flat 6 with dual carbs (one carb per bank of 3 cylinders). The fan
in the middle forces cool air over the cylinders/heads.

Or you could go with the 4 carb version (2 carbs on each bank of 3 cylinders)
