replaced PSU, still won't power up

my OCZ modxstream PSU broke so I rma'd it and got a new one. Even after plugging it in the nothing powers up at all. I tested the PSU with a paperclip and only my hard drives and optical drive both fire up. Could it be a dead mobo as well? any way to test this short of getting new parts?

Strip it down, take the motherboard out of the case and just connect the essentals, keyboard, mouse, monitor, one memory stick and PSU, power it up and see if you get anything. Try each memory stick, one at a time (if you have more than one) BE SURE TO SHUT OFF/DISCONNECT THE PSU BEFORE CHANGING EACH STICK!. If no power then yes, its probably the mobo. Did you examine the caps and check for any bulging tops or leaking ones?

I agree with pete1229 about pulling the motherboard and just connect the essental. While the motherboard is out of the case. Try looking at the 24 pin PSU connector on the motherboard it self.

Check the motherboard tracers around the 24 pin too see if any are burned. My brother had a PSU that shorted out on him. It ended up burning one of the motherboard tracers around the 24 pin connector.

Try something simple: reset the BIOS (CLR_CMOS).

ok now that i've stripped down the computer to barebones, is there a button on the mobo to turn it on since it isn't in the case anymore? i looked over the mobo carefully...my last DFI board had one *shrug*

Your going to have to locate the two pins on the MB header which connect to the case switch. Take a screwdriver (or something similar) and momentarily short these two pins together. That will similate your case switch action.

Yup or, you could just plug in you case connectors.
