I have a the first generation Shaker 500 Ford system (head unit replaced many years ago with a Kenwood Touch screen). I was told they were 6x8 speakers from the factory. When I pulled the door panel off, I was surprised to see that instead of 6x8 Shaker speakers, there were old Mach 460 speakers (3.5" woofer and a 1" tweeter) in a 6x8 encloser. They even say Mach on the back of them.

I am the original owner....so is this Ford using up old inventory? I haven't found much information on this online.

See sig for car.

The early Shaker 500s used Mach 460 high drivers. In fact the design never really changed, they just lost the Mach moniker. It's the door subs that make the 500s special. An Amp near each door driving a sub with 1.2 ohm voice coils. They are high current amps in a day where most things are wired for 2 and 4 ohm loads. I don't recommend trying to run new door subs without replacing the amps unless you can find subs you can wire down to 1 ohm.
