Replaced Master Boot Record with wrong backup, then messed up even more!

So, trying to install Win2k/98SE on another HDD so that I could access the disk with the bad MBR on it, I somehow managed to have scandisk change the file system on the f-ed drive so that it did a complete repair of the FAT and files etc. I was originally using NTFS, running Win2k so naturally FAT32 would screw up things worse than they already were. Now all the files on that drive are named File0001, DIR00345 etc... Here's my dilemma:

I obviously want the data back, and it seems the only way to do that is to use the undo disks that were made by Scandisk while repairing the file system, FAT. Now this might work, only if I knew how to use those undo disks! This is where I need your help. I've installed Win2k again, on a different drive, so I'm up and running again, but I'd still like some of the data on the messed up drive as much of it were very important files of which my latest backup is from 28. October... Too long ago...

If you are curious as to how I managed to replace my master boot record in the first place, I'll be happy to share, but I'm mostly interested in finding a way to recover my lost data ... Hope you understand what I'm trying to convey.

Please help out if you can!
