Replaced Macbook LCD, Now only boots to grey apple screen

I replaced an LCD in a Macbook Pro (unibody style w/ removable battery). I selected what I believe is the correct LCD. I did the swap and started the laptop back up.

The LCD displays fine, but the laptop only goes as far as the grey screen with the Apple logo on it. A progress bar comes up for about a minute, loads about 1/3 of the way, then goes away and is replaced with the spinning lines. It can sit that way for hours.

I've tried clearing the NVRAM and can't get far enough to boot in the hardware test.

Any ideas? Did I end up with the wrong display? Did I leave something loose? Was hoping to get some guidance before I start taking stuff apart.

Probably wrong display.
If something was loose, you would not be getting
the apple logo or grey screen.

can you boot to the recovery drive (if it has it) or the install dvd?

Not yet, but I don't think it gets that far since it won't boot to the hardware test.

That's kinda what I was thinking. It's weird since I matched the model but who knows. I figured that if something was wrong or loose I wouldn't even get as far as I had.

i really dont think its the display, try disconnecting the lvds cable and using an external monitor.
