I am thinking I have a defective panel, but I want to make sure before I go into a week of RMA processing.

It's a Gateway UC7308U if it matters. I did see there is a 30pin and 20pin version, however; it looks like my ribbon cable fits properly.

On the cracked screen I can see a little bit of text/image which has be believeing the inverter if fine.

When I plug in the replacement screen I get the backlight coming on, but absolutely no image...not even a faint one.

This sound like a definite bad panel?

Thanks

I would say you forgot to plug it into the mobo's video, but since you seem to have tested by plugging the old one back in I'd give the RMA a go. I'm not experienced in laptop repair though, so you'll probably want to wait to get some further input from the rest of the crowd.

Yeah definitely didn't forget to plug anything in. I can place both panels side by side and move the video cable and power between them.

The new panel lights up with no image.

The old panel lights up with image, but since it's cracked it's got to be replaced.

Sending it back on monday. I am hoping I don't have some wierd EDID thing going on like my Thinkpad panel had.

My Thinkpad panel only had the 1400x1050 mode programmed from the factory...so normally just reprogram the EPROM and you are set. Problem is they write-protected it. I found out later there is another panel available for 4x the price with all modes programmed from the factory....BS.

update: they sent the wrong part number. Plugs were the same but like I thought the EDID info wasn't right.

Working great with the next screen they sent out.

LCDS4less.com has really fast service.

Cool. I can't help but think I wasn't much help... <- really poor sentence structure there huh?

Anyways, I'm glad you got the right panel this time :).
