Replace Vista with W7 for CULV machine?

I ordered a new Gateway 1803 w/ the 1.3 gighz CULV so I was wondering if there were any speed or battery life benefits if I replace it w/ w7?

Every place in this life where you can replace Vista with 7, your soul benefits. Vista is the OS of the underworld...

But seriously, 7 is WAY easier on resources than Vista.

nice thing about vista is everyone has a carpload of keys to give you 😉

i run alot of vm's with vista because well - free keys are free keys.

Yea, Windows 7 uses less video memory, and has more advanced power management, so battery life will be better.

I "downgraded" from Vista Ultimate to W7 Home Premium on an HP TX2 Touchsmart and I've never been happier. I thought the TX2 was a really crappy purchase, until replacing Vista. Night and day difference. Much snappier (responsive) and battery life improved a bit as well. I'd highly recommend it.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the touchscreen works a lot better under 7 as well!

Yes W7 will be much better on slower machines than Vista. Unless you have a SSD, in which case its pretty close. (Have an Acer 1810tz with vista and samsung ssd)

If it's free or cheap, upgrade. Otherwise, the latest service packs of Vista are quite decent and you may or may not notice a huge difference. Also having at least 2GB RAM will narrow many performance gaps. Win7 might be more beneficial for aged PCs but not anything modern (not even my Atom netbook).

vista is fine now. it just sucked the first year it was out.

you still notice some slowness with video stuff like remote desktop and such.... but for the most part win7 isnt that much faster at all. i use vista on my servers, and any pc that i use daily i like to have win7 on there. win7 has a lot of little nice quirks that make everyday computing easier.

all that said, both are lightyears better then xp with sp3. i had to go back to xp on one of my boxes, and quite frankly, it sucks.
