Replace stock fan/heatsink?

I have a Pentium 2.6GHz (socket 478) with stock fan/heatsink.

Is it worth replacing this with one of those nifty ones on Newegg, or will this work just fine?

Yes, both of them are right. You should only upgrade if you want to overclock or if you want a quieter PC. Possibly even both since some quieter HSF will allow the CPU to run cooler.

And you'll probably scare the shite out of yourself when you do because the stock sink usualy rips the cpu out of it's socket still attached sticking to the heatsink when you pull it out.

So be prepared to repair bent pins on your cpu.
