Yes, you should replace it with what they call a 'UICC' SIM card. Just go into a T-Mobile store and ask for one, they should replace it for you for free.

I've been using the same T-mobile sim since 2003 and have swapped it to at least 8 different phones over the year and it is currently in my Vibrant and is constantly connecting at 3g and 3.5g and I have not had an issue ever. The read above was interesting but other than worn contact I see no reason a newer one would work any better.
