Replace northbridge heatsink on DS3 with Zalman ZM-NB47J?

Hi, my system parts arrived and I am going to assemble it tonight.

E6400 0627, SL9S9 (are these good overclockers?)
Gigabyte DS3
Big Typhoon
Corsair XMS-5400C4 2gb
Geforce 6600 256mb (not gaming at this time)

I got a free Zalman ZM-NB47J northbridge heatsink.

Weight 54g
Material Aluminum

not sure if it will outperform the stock motherboard heatsink. Is it worth it to replace the stock one with the Zalman and AS3?

It will outperform it yes. If you are not comfortable putting it on correctly though you can just use the stock it is good until 420+ fsb.

No i think I can manage the swap. It's just a matter of is it worth it to spend the time. Ideally I wanted to get 450x8 assuming the cpu allows. I'll make the change tonight and install the system.

What would be a good monitoring software for the northbridge?

(i recall last time for my p4 system I used to use Motherboard Monitor 5.3.7.0 but it just showed PWM, Case and CPU temps).

ON the DS-3 it does not measure the NB. The case temperature is southbridge. Only way you can really test is by stability. If it crashes and feels hot to the touch its running too hot . Sorry can't help you more.

Definetly put on the NB cooler.

On the recent DS3 I put together, the NB was running crazy hot. It would be nice and stable till it had been running a while then loose stability. It was definetly "burn yourself" hot with the stock heatsink. Next LAN party I'm goig to toss on a seperate northbridge cooler for the guy so he can get some higher clocks. Anything higher then 333 FSB would cause the NB to get far too hot and then stability testing would show RAM errors even when the ratio caused the Ram to clock very low.
