Replace my Droid X with an X2 for ins fee?

I am leaning towards a Droid Bionic. I know, not what the title says but the last time I upgraded my phone my last phone had just died and I used the 50$ insurance fee for a new BB Storm. Had it as a spare, them my mother took over it after hers died. So now I am thinking about doing this with my Droid X to a Droid X 2 and taking advantage of the standard upgrade plan to a Droid Bionic.

The condition of my Droid X is ... fair. The usb port is finniky for charging the phone.. i've tried different chargers etc and the only way it will work is if i put down pressure on the usb plug so it electrically connects. The other issue is the Home button is compressed and won't decompress. It's still functional but you really have to give it a pressing to make it work. So that and it's sorta been through hell. For my mother, this would pose a problem for her, for me, eehh not so much. Plus I really like the idea of having a DX2 as a spare o_O

What should I do?

I would wait. The Droid Bionic is a nice phone, but, I would wait and see what comes out in the next month or two.

If it's totally unusable, maybe tough it out with a dumbphone for a bit. I'm betting VZW will have some even better phones in the not-too-distant future.

I don't follow the smartphone biz to close to know what's up with new coming stuff... if you asked me about 22nm, i'd tell you Ivy Bridge and that AMD will be releasing their die-shrink GPUs by late Q4

EDIT: I tried the Bionic at the store and it's amazingly fast compared to my DX... I've always felt over-sold by hype people made about the DX and it can be painstakingly slow... to me slow is the feeling of a laptop 5400rpm hard drive from 2006 in need of a defrag.

EDIT 2: kind of a Motorola fan, too :hmm:

I messed around with a Bionic one of my docs bought, it was fast, but I really want a 2nd gen LTE chipset that's easier on the battery...

I briefed over one of the Anandtech articles ... maybe the first LTE smartphone ???? ... and they mentioned 2nd gen LTE chipset and from what I can vaguely recall, the writer said it wouldn't offer much of an improvement, battery-life wise. What do you know about the next chipset scene?

Nothing, was just assuming they'd do a die shrink and it'd be more efficient.

I have a ThunderBolt, and it's pure hell on batteries :(

I have an extended battery, running Cyanogen RC 1.7 & base knl, getting ~10 hours.

That seems low . . . I get that with the standard battery easy, but with LTE turned off 90% of the time.

But yeah, OP, wait until at least the end of November if you can. The Vigor(T-bolt2?), Nexus/Samsung Prime, Revolution 2, and a few others are all going to be released.

I keep hearing to wait, not only in this thread but others as well. But NO ONE has even remotely guven a reason why. I will wait but I need to know why. Can someone help on this? I havent heard of any major node changes, or new or better things coming along :hmm:

The reason why I say wait, is because I have a feeling that the reason VZW didn't get the new Galaxy S II, is because they're going to put an LTE radio in it, maybe make a few other enhancements, and slap the Nexus Prime name on it. And it'll drop sometime in the next month or two running with Ice Cream Sandwich.

The new Galaxy S II phones are the most powerful smartphones on the market. Android/Google need a device to launch their new OS on. VZW needs something to combat the iPhone 5. Why not use the most powerful phone on the market to do so?

Where is the "like" button! Haha, thanks! Now that's the sound of advice I needed.

Of course, I could be completely wrong, so, take it with a grain of salt.

I have an extended battery, running Cyanogen RC 1.7 & base knl, getting ~10 hours.

use a custom kernel and undervolt. i usually end the day at 20%, 4G on, JustReader syncing news feeds every hour, browsing the web sparingly, and lots of text messaging and gtalk. this is on stock battery, but i just bought an extended battery at 50% discount from vzw.

i use imoseyon's kernel and undervolt all the frequencies up to 1ghz:
245/368 - 750mv
768 - 850mv
1024 - 1000mv

stock voltages are 900/1000/1100 for the above frequencies, give or take.

edit: use interactiveX governor, the ondemand governor usually stays at the top range of the clock frequencies.

All that with the Bionic?
