Replace MOBO and do not reinstall the OS?

Can I simply replace my MB, CPU, Memory, Video Card; reattach the hard drives and boot up my system?

I would have to reload a ton of software if I do a fresh install?

If it's a replacement motherboard, then you should be ok.

If it's an upgrade, you could always try a repair install, but that always seems to leave ghosts and isn't recommended

Ouch. I figured as much. In your opinion should I just upgrade the memory to 2GIGs and Video card to a newer one? Instead of buying all new pieces.

I use my PC mostly for high 3D gaming HL2, Doom3, EQ2...

My current system is running on an
INTEL D865GBF MOBO with a P4 3.0Gig HT CPU
1GB Twin pairs of 512 Hyperx gaming (Kingston)
ATI Raedon 9800 Pro
Good CL sound card
Two WD HDs 7200RPMs 8 MB Caches (500GBs)
Win XP SP 2 HOME
Alum Case Lian Lian
Antec 480Watt PSU

Just uninstall your motherboard and video drivers, do the repair install, load the new drivers and get gaming.
