I bought a refurbed Nexus 7 for my aunt since it was on sale, and she cracked the screen. Reading Asus's warranty, even though its within the 90 period, they will probably not fix this because of the crack. Apparently its a digitizer thats busted, since the input is intermittent but otherwise the display is OK.

After doing some preliminary research on repairing it, it seems it would be less hassle to replace the screen and digitizer at the same time, since separating the screen from the digitizer is almost impossible. So my question is if anyone has done this repair, where did you source your LCD and digitizer from? I seen I can get it on ebay from $60 to $80, so obviously I'm eyeballing the $60, but some of the feedback for various sellers seems to indicate some screens they are selling are inferior to OEM. Like, lower resolution and color uniformity. I only paid $120 or so for the tablet, and its almost at the point where it would be better to just buy another refurb. I just don't want to spend $60, then find out the panel I bought is crap and potentially buy another panel or another refurb tablet.

My advice is, put it up on ebay the way it is, and buy a new/refurb one. It's too difficult to replace the screen by yourself without extensive experience and more trouble than it's worth.

Next time, buy a "good" case for your auntie. $60 can buy you a great case. Maybe several even.
