Replace laptop DVD-Drive

I have a DELL Latitude D810 which comes with a DVD-Drive that looks like this (image). Notice the square thing which protrudes in the back end of the drive is the connection interface.

Now,check out the NEC DVD writer (NEC DVD-Writer image)
Its connection interface is on the side without a square protrusion.

I am just wondering is it possible swap the bracket of the two drives. I know some people done this for their Dell Inspiron series laptops. Thus, I hope this works for the Latitude series as well.

Check out Newegg.com. There are quite a few low profile/slim DVD drives that you can use to replace your broken drive.

I'm not sure about Dell, but I have swapped 5 Toshibas. The bracket just puts the physical pins where you need 'um for your specific model. Most of the time you can swap faceplates also.....at least for Toshibas.

I can say the same is for Sony and a few other laptop manufactures. Just keep that particular coverter.

I did this with a d600 and d800. Buy a drive from newegg and just swap the tray, your gonna have to take out the tray push button though. I did this with a 6550 dvd_+rw drive...worked great

Thanks for your reply but I have two questions to ask you.
What do you mean by removing the tray push button--do I unscrew the screw to release it or do I actually break it from the dvd-tray?
If I take out the tray push button, how can I remove the dvd-drive when I want to remove it from my laptop?
