Hi,

I'm thinking about replacing the harddrive in my laptop, because it sounds funny(not very funny actually) sometimes, but I'm not sure if there is anything special to think about when doing this? I'm familiar with regular computers interior, but havent done much with laptops.

its a toshiba satellite 1800 with 12gb drive right now, can I buy whatever 2,5inch drive or is there any specifications to follow?

tips/hints/ideas are welcome.

well there are different connectors for the drives and I hear toshiba's are a pain when working with their innards. might want to call their tech support to make sure

The HDD sled is usually just secured with one small screw on the bottom. Unscrew it and push the sled out.

The HDD itself is usually secured using 4 screws...

Its all pretty basic and straight forward. What you should call tech support about, however, is what the maximum size supported is for that model.

Edit: Be careful when you put the new HDD in the sled, its easy to damage the pins. Insert the HDD "pin-side-first" and then push the rest of it in.. /Edit
