replace gf3 ti200?

Shortcut

I picked up a pre-assembled computer on sale recently. It has a p4 2.4GHz CPU, and a GeForce FX5200.

My previous system had a GF3 ti200.

I'd like to understand which card is better for gaming. But I wasn't able to find head-to-head comparisons between a gf3 ti and the fx5200. Should I keep the fx5200, or swap it out for the gf3?

Another vote for the GF3. I doubt you'll find any reviews comparing the two cards due to the large age difference. Try a couple of your own before-and-after benchmarks to check if you want.

The 5200 does DX9 BUT is a real slow card so probable will be unable to really use any of its powers. The GF3 will be faster on most games

Ti200 should be faster overall. The FX5200 may have a nicer 2D signal and better-looking DVD playback.

Why don't you just try them both out in a game you play a lot? A few days with one, then a few with another. Or just run some benchmarks of your own (3DM01SE, AM3, Q3 demo, UT2K3 demo, Wolf:ET, etc.).
