replace dell motherboard with amd is this possible

i have a system without an agp slot this kind of sucks can i swap out mothers it is a dell 2400

Wrong forum.

But in all liklihood it isn't. Dell uses (or used to) proprietary motherboards and power supplies. You couldn't use your dell case or PSU. The holes aren't lined up to ATX spec, and Dell uses (or used to) an auxillary power connector.

probably, I think they are all standard ATX now.

If you can even use your Dell case you might want an m-ATX motherboard and a different PSU.

Wait...

You want a new board so you can have an AGP slot and get a super-rad video card, right?

Hah. Well, the problem there is that although you'd have a super-rad vid card... the rest of the "totally awesome" dell would probably end up bottlenecking the system.

Here's my suggestion: save your money, buy a real PC... you know, the kind YOU build.

thnx the i try to avoid building systems. the resale tends to be less. compared to reselling dell branded machine. even if it has diff innards

Whoa! Thanks for the info. I was thinking of upgrading my Dell, with a new motherboard and processor. Now I know better.

Dell uses a 200Watt PS. Works fine for the Intel CPUs... Could one of these do the trick for now?

Right. Because it's better to worry about how much you can sell something for after paying tons of money on it rather than making sure it does the job you want.

you may need a new case (or PS though)
sometimes with brands like compaq and HP you cant do much with the existing case or power supplies, but not hard to get replacements.

I think it might be possible, but I think it's going to be more trouble than it's worth. With your luck, the mounting holes for even an mATX board won't work, or you wouldn't be able to mount an AGP card properly or something. I'd say just give up and buy a new computer.
