My AC compressor clutch is making noise. I isolated it by removing the accessory belt and starting for 10s. The only other items on that belt are the alternator and an idler, which both spin freely. Compressor has some sticking. Noise used to only be heard when AC was off, now can be heard with both off and on.

I know that some shop can do this bearing, but I am curious if it cat be done without removing the compressor. Vehicle is a 2000 Echo.

Do they sell a even bearing separately? I'm seeing only an oem clutch available and it seems to cost as much as a reman compressor assembly.

I haven't looked for one yet. I do have a bearing supply house in town, though, that might be able to match me up with one off the shelf.

You should try the Toyota forums as I suspect you may be the first to try that. Good luck.

I was able to do this, partway, this evening. I was able to remove the clutch and press out the bearing like in the videos above, and now I'm going to wait for a new bearing to arrive. Sweet!
