Replace a noisy 72mm cpu fan

Hi all,

The stock heatsink/fan combo on my athlon ii x3 (am2+ board iirc) makes a horrid high-pitch whine under load.

I believe the fan is a 72mm (distance from edge to edge) and I've been looking for either a quiet 72mm fan, or a 72mm fan adapter (to any larger size)

The heatsink is providing adaquate cooling as I have no desire to overclock, so I was looking for the cheap-arse "replace the fan only" route.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Your not saying anything about size constraints ??

You want another 77mm or you can go 120mm, cuz higher you go less noise @ 1300rpm especially....... gl

120mm fans will be much lower frequency and more tolerable. It's easier to replace the heatsink entirely than it is to find a quiet 70mm fan. It's not that expensive either...

For example, if this fits in your case:

It's only $20 and will be quiet, especially if you run fan control on your mobo to turn the fan down a bit. Since it will cool much better than your current cooler, the fan can run much slower (and quieter) to get equivalent cooling performance.
