Hi all,
About four days or so ago, my computer started typing zeros all by itself (constant repeating zeros) into any web app I open. For instance, if I go to IE, it types zeros into either the google search bar, or even the url window. If I go to one of my web stat tracking applications (we use Visual Route for our business site), the computer types zero after zero after zero in the little window where we enter a url or IP address. When I go to Outook Express, and try to do a "find".....yep...drum roll for the high drama here...it types zeros into any field that I try to go to to enter search data.
I can check e-mail just fine, all apps seem stable, but WHAT is this nonsense?
Is this a virus?, and if so, how do I get rid of it?
I use three PC's for my business, and the one I'm referring to is more the "e-mail and occasional ftp" machine, which also doubles at night as my gaming rig. It doesn't have Norton on it, so my guess is after all these years I finally got a virus.
Any thoughts, solutions, and helpful ideas are more than welcome, and thanks in advance for your help...I really need it.
Oh yeah...I've already tried SYSTEM RESTORE to different prior times, and nothing clears this up. The only change worth noting in troubleshooting this, is that right before this zero business happened I uninstalled my old GeForce Ti-4200 and installed a new PNY GeForce 6600GT AGP. However, a two monts ago I had tried a GeForce 6800 from Best Buy, and so had to do the exact same uninstall of old card, install of new card, and there were NO problems with that upgrade. By the way, I've built all of my own PC's for the last six years or so, so just for the record I'm pretty familiar with the hardware side of things. (also, for anyone curious, the 6600GT plays Half Life 2 just as well as the 6800 did, so now that the 6600 AGP's are coming into store shelves I'm glad I waited - great performance at a good price)
Sincerely,
RT178
PS - This post is also in the "troubleshooting" forum, but I'm pretty sure this is a software issue at some level, so I'd appreciate any leniency from the admins....I'm not trying to junk up the forums with crossposting...I just NEED an answer ASAP. We can't track our website and some of the information is important to the co-owner of our business (my wife
