Here's the situation guys.. I have a PC in my garage that I want to add to my wireless network. Signal reaches the outside wall, according to my laptop, but dies inside the structure. Seems like an ideal situation for a repeater.. But I also have a spare PC laying around.. So.. Can I hook up a wireless NIC to this thing and use it as a repeater? What software would I use? All PCs are on Win XP Pro.. Thanks in advance guys!

There is free Linux software that can make a computer with Wireless Card acting as a repeater.

I saw some where similar software for Windows but the software costs more then buying a Standalone Repeater.

The Repeater computer will have to be put somewhere between the source and the destination.

At the spot of doing it you would save a little, after few month of operation Feeding the Penguin Repeater with Electricity will Eat the saving and will start to cost.

Jack,

Thanks for the tip. I actually came up with a different solution.. Assuming that I am only in it for access to the internet on the PCs outside of range, couldn't I Set up a proxy server on the system by the outside wall, hard set the IP on the further system and use the proxy setting in IE to access the internet via the Middleman PC? What do you think?
